Junior Legion

A committee exploring the possibility of organizing a Junior Division American Legion baseball team to start play in 2011 will hold an informational meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, on Field One at Ian Deutch Memorial Park.

Invited to attend are people who have been associated with teams in age-group programs in the past, or plan to be in the future, in particular 11-12 and 13-14 .

The Junior Legion division is for players 16 and under. This past season, 22 teams played in the Junior Legion division, sanctioned by the Nevada Youth Baseball Association.

Pahrump Valley’s Legion team the past three summers have competed in the NYBA American Legion Silver Division 19 and under .

Furnace Creek

DEATH VALLEY, Calif. — The Furnace Creek Fall Kickoff Classic is scheduled Oct. 8-9-10 at the Furnace Creek Golf Course here.

On Oct. 8 will be a men’s and mixed scramble, with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Handicap limits are 10 for men, 20 for mixed teams.

On Oct. 9, is a Better Ball of Two event for men and mixed, with the same handicap limitations.

On Oct. 10 is The Chapman, with flights for men’s and mixed divisions.

The last two events have shotgun starts at 7:30 a.m.

The entry fee is $50 each day per person and includes greens fees, cart and prizes.

Trick shot pool

The Pahrump Valley Pool League and Quilts for Cancer are sponsoring a 9-ball charity tournament Sept. 4-5 at the Hideaway, located at 4760 S. Pahrump Valley Boulevard 751-1425 .

The entry fee is $30, with $20 going into the tournament prize pool and $10 to the charity. There will be door prizes and raffle, with a Mike Massey McDermott signature cue the main prize. Massey, a 17-time world trick shot champion, will be there in person, starting at noon Sept. 4.

On Sept. 3, there will be a players’ meeting at 7 p.m..

RCMS football

The first practice for the Rosemary Clarke Middle School football team will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23.

A parents’ meeting will be held Aug. 25, at about 7:30 p.m.

Looking for players

Coast-to-Coast Baseball is seeking skilled baseball players, ages 10 to 18, to represent the United States in competition in Puerto Rico, or to work with top college coaches and pro scouts at camps in either Arizona or Florida.

Sharks volleyball

The Rosemary Clarke Middle School preseason volleyball camp will be held Aug. 30-Sept. 2, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Sharks gym.

The cost for the camp is $35, payable in cash or money order to RCMS .

A parents’ meeting will be held Sept. 1, immediately following the camp session. All players must have undergone a physical examination by a physician prior to going to camp.

Tryouts are scheduled Sept. 7-8-9, from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Players named to the team must pay a $35 fee, which is forwarded to the Nye County School District.

Bowling

The Pahrump Valley Tournament Bowling Club will hold a snakebite singles tournament, with handicap, Saturday at the Nugget. Squad times are 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. The tournament is open to active club members only. Dues for 2010 must be paid with entry into this tournament.
