Cross country today … girls’ golf and boys’ soccer Thursday … football Friday.
That’s what’s ahead for Pahrump Valley High School fall sports teams this week.
Coach Andy Andersen’s boys and girls will launch the 2010 cross country campaign today at 5:30 p.m. on a Lakeview Executive golf course layout.
The opposition will be Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A Division members Las Vegas Durango and Sierra Vista.
Saturday, the Trojans go to Las Vegas to compete in the Labor Day Classic at Palo Verde, starting at 8 a.m.
Running for the Trojans will be seniors Matthew Denning, Patrick Grace, Colin McAtee, Nick Stearns, Brittani Harris and Concheast Koller; juniors Dylan Dace, Jerry Dillon Jr., Tyler Gulden, Robert Lane, Robert Moynahan, Micah Nauck, Torii Rock and Amy Velasco; sophomores Braxton Harris, Andrew Lucero, Lupe Alarcon and DeeAnn Handley and freshmen Gilbert Duenas, Trevor Meads, Tyler Velasco and Hannah Lane.
Coach Julie Floyd’s girls golf team goes to Canyon Gate in Las Vegas Thursday to open the season against 4-A division rivals, starting at 12:30 p.m.
Expected to tee-off for the Trojans are seniors Sierra Fitzgibbons and Ashley Morales, juniors Danielle Altiero, Emilyne Biggs and Rebekah Binderim and sophomores Helen Denny, Summer Dispensa, Cassi Kuhn and Jasmine Hunt.
Pahrump Valley’s first home match at Mountain Falls is Sept. 15, starting at 11 a.m.
Pahrump Valley’s boys soccer team plays at home against Las Vegas Faith Lutheran of the Sunset Region Northwest 4-A Division, starting at 3 p.m. Thursday.
Coach Brad Green’s team was 1-2-0 at the Mesquite Cup last weekend at Mesquite. Hosted by Virgin Valley, the tournament was played at the Sports and Events Center, the home for the nationally-televised ReMax Long Drive Championships contested each October.
The Trojans lost 4-1 to Northwest power Arbor View, defeated Overton Moapa Valley 5-0 and lost 1-0 to the Henderson Coronado JVs. The win gave the Trojans a major lift; they were 0-16-2 in the 2009 campaign.
Faith Lutheran lost 2-1 to Arbor View in the Mesquite Cup finals.
Pahrump Valley’s girls defeated the Virgin Valley JVs 12-0, the Virgin Valley varsity 4-0 and the Moapa Valley varsity 10-0, enroute to the Mesquite Cup championship.
In the finale, Melissa Ewing scored four goals, with Brandi Monje adding three, Courtney Lindsay two and Leanne Morrow one for the Trojans. The shutout was shared by keepers Madzia DeSalvo and Dana Ayala.
Coach Greg Leseberg’s team dominated the tournament, but the Lady Trojans will now be idle until Sept. 11, when they host Virgin Valley in a game that has a 10 a.m. start.
Pahrump Valley’s football team held an intrasquad scrimmage Saturday as work continued for the Trojans’ home opener against Las Vegas Mountain View Christian Friday 7 p.m. . It’s Hall of Fame Night, with the Class of 2010 at PVHS being inducted.
