Three came; three voted; three accomplished their tasks.

A quorum of three board members attended Tuesday night’s town board meeting.

With Chairman Nicole Shupp and Vice Chairman Bill Dolan absent, the board’s clerk, Vicky Parker, was tasked with conducting the meeting. There were just a handful of agenda items that required decisions by the board.

* The item to create the 2010-2011 goals and performance objectives for Town Manager Bill Kohbarger, was removed from the agenda until the full board can convene.

* The board voted unanimously to accept a $1,500 grant from the Southern Nevada Chapter of the International Code Council to pay for swimming lessons at the community pool for toddlers next summer.

* The board, guided by the recommendation of the tourism advisory board, unanimously agreed that the town will not pay to produce highway plaques for service clubs and churches at the entrances to the town.

The organizations participating in the collective sign program have already paid from $200 to $300 for producing the signs, depending upon whether a logo is used.

To have the signs placed in three locations on Highways 160 and 372 would cost approximately $1,500.

* After lengthy discussion, the board decided to table an item presented by Levi Ryder, representing the Nye County Nuclear Waste Repository Office.

Ryder asked for approval for the county to drill and construct monitoring wells at two locations on town property for a scientific study funded by a U.S. Department of Energy groundwater evaluation grant.

* The consent agenda contained eight items and was approved 2-1, with Parker voting against approval. There was no discussion by the board.
