Seniors get prescription drug help September 16

PVT

LAS VEGAS — Representatives from the State Health Insurance Program SHIP , the Social Security Administration and Rebuilding All Goals Efficiently RAGE , a nonprofit Las Vegas-based organization, will host a special prescription assistance presentation from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 16, at the Pahrump Senior Center.

Representatives will be able to determine eligibility and complete applications for state and federal assistance for prescription drug costs. Those currently on Medicare may meet the income requirements for extra help with drug-plan costs.

Those approved will pay no more than $2.50 for generic drugs and $6.30 for most name brand drugs.

Applying for prescription assistance may also qualify participants for a Medicare Savings Program MSP , which allows for reimbursement of monthly Medicare Part B premiums.

The event is free and open to the public.

The event will be repeated Oct. 7.

Prescription drug prices in the U.S. are among the highest in the world. In 2009 alone, more than $300 billion was spent on prescription medicines, according to IMS Health, a data-tracking firm.
