Here is a list of highlights for this weekend to help schedule your recreation time.

Friday

• The Karaoke Contest finals take place tonight starting at 8 p.m., at Sugar Magnolia on Hafen Ranch Road.

Cash prizes will be awarded.

• Another Karoke Contest fires up at Fred’s Maverick tonight at 8 p.m.

This time, it will run for eight weeks and the top cash prize is $1,000.

There is an entry fee of $10 each time you enter and the system for determining the winner will be points awarded on a scale from one to 10.

The showdown will be between the six top points holders.

Saturday

• Ms. Senior Nye County is hosting a “Soc” Hop, themed Remember When, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Pahrump Nugget Events Center.

There will be appetizers, a no-host bar, dance contests, music by Buck Steele, raffles and door prizes.

Tickets are $25 for couples and $15 for singles.

Break out the poodle skirt and help the organization raise some money.

• The renaming of Honeysuckle Park to Ian Deutch Memorial Park becomes official at 9 a.m. today with the unveiling of the new engraved boulder.

Everyone is invited to attend.

Other stuff

• Here’s something fun for those of you with gardens — and especially gardeners with pumpkins.

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners are holding the annual Giant Pumpkin Contest.

The weigh-in will take place during the Pahrump Fair & Festival Sept 23-26.

Get the entry forms at the extension office, corner of Dandelion Street and Calvada Boulevard, and start watering those gourds.

The cost is only $1 per entry.

• Charlie’s Place has started Blacklight Pool at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays.

Owner Charlie Archer said it’s a lot of fun and “if people dress in blacklight reflective clothing, the effect is awesome.”

Iron Chef Showdown has been discontinued
