Cribbage tourney starts today

Today kicks off the three-day Pahrump Nevada Open Cribbage Tournament sanctioned by the American Cribbage Congress ACC .

There will be an early bird event at 4 p.m. The main event begins tomorrow 8:30 a.m., and the consolation tournament will be played Sunday, at 9:30 a.m. All tournaments will be played in the Pahrump Nugget Events Center.

The early bird event will be nine games beginning today at 4 p.m., with registration/check-in at 3 p.m. Entry fees are $25 per player and pays one-in-six with no playoffs.

The main event is a 22-game tournament beginning at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow. The entry fee of $60 includes coffee and water all day, donuts at 7 a.m., a buffet lunch and Club Nugget free slot play.

The top 25 percent advance to play-off rounds. There is an optional graduated qualifying pool of $15 that pays one-in-eight.

Playoffs begin when regular play is completed and will resume at 8 a.m. on Sunday,

The consolation tournament registration begins Sunday at 8:30 a.m., with the nine-game tournament starting at 9:30 a.m.

The entry fee is $30 with an optional $10 graduated qualifying pool that pays one-in-eight.

The top 25 percent will continue to playoff rounds. ACC membership is required and players may enroll at the event for $15.

Cash prizes and custom-made cribbage board trophies will be awarded to the winners of each tournament. The ACC also awards $100 for every 29-hand earned in sanctioned play as well as certificates for all 28-hands.

Walk-in registrations are accepted with cash only. The Pahrump Nugget Event Center is handicapped accessible and is a non-smoking facility.

There are over 30 players registered for the early bird tournament and over 60 for Saturday’s main event. The majority of registrants are from California, Arizona and Nevada with some traveling from as far as Oregon.

This inaugural event, organized by Denise Fortin, director of the local ACC Grass Roots club, the Pahrump Peggers, stated there are plans to make the tournament an annual event.
