Artistic Centre closes

For 12 years, Mary Albin has owned and been the director for the Artistic Centre dance studio at Wheeler Springs Plaza here. The studio, at this point, is not taking fall registration.

The PVT learned at the annual dance recital held last weekend, that Albin will be leaving Pahrump and moving to Los Angeles where her 18-year-old daughter, Katie, is studying ballet with the Los Angeles Ballet.

“Katie studied for five years with the Nevada Ballet Theatre in Las Vegas,” Albin said. “She has an opportunity in Los Angeles to get into a pre-professional program. It’s difficult to break into dance as an occupation.”

Albin said it was “a sudden decision to sell our home and sell the studio, but we are interested in being where Katie’s future lies.”

Albin said she opened the Artistic Centre and hired professional instructors from Las Vegas. “I wanted professionals teaching the students,” she said. “And I didn’t want to drive to Las Vegas to have that.”

Albin has two daughters, and both are now the primary instructors for the Artistic Centre.

Albin says she has no intention of opening another dance studio so she really has no use for the improvements she’s made to the leased space at Wheeler Springs Plaza.

“I installed the mirrors and the bars and the floor is portable and can be moved, but I’d really like to see someone continue to offer professional lessons to the kids here.

The recital had an Alice in Wonderland theme and pictures of the event are on Page A8.

Albin can be contacted at 513-1502.
