Pahrump Valley's Greg Leseberg was named coach of the Year after guiding the Trojans to an upset 1-0 victory against arch-nemesis Boulder City in the Southern League semifinals and into the state tournament.

The most valuable player award went to Truckee (Calif.) senior midfielder Adele Shaffer, who led the Wolverines to a 5-3 win over the Crusaders in the state title game.

Mesquite Virgin Valley senior goalkeeper Jacque Olivé took defensive player of the year honors, after posting six shutouts in helping the Bulldogs finish 7-11-5.

The first team includes forwards Katie Dill (Truckee), Melissa Ewing (Pahrump Valley) and Sasha Rupp (Whittell); midfielders Andrea Empey (Spring Creek), Stephanie O'Neil (Truckee), Krystal Onyema (Faith Lutheran) and Samantha Sposato (Pahrump Valley); defenders Kelly Bradley (Fernley), Chloe Breider (Incline) and Jessica Nelson (Faith Lutheran); goalkeeper Kyla Siri (Spring Creek); and utility player Krista Klebenow (Spring Creek).

Pahrump Valley, which was supposed to move into the Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A Division this fall, played Class 3-A soccer because a Title IX lawsuit filed by a Henderson attorney. The Lady Trojans were 5-4-1 in the league, 7-10-2 in all matches.

According to a report from reliable sources, Pahrump Valley will play 4-A soccer in the fall in the 2009-2010 school year. That will happen, barring a similar suit being filed between now and the end of the school year.

Pahrump Valley's boys played 4-A soccer this fall, finishing 4-10-2 in the Southwest Division.
